I’m a huge fan of historical books which depict the social,
political, geographical and cultural scenarios of ancient civilizations.
But the books of this genre which I’ve come across so far are
non-fictions. Last year when I was having a chat with my aunt about
these kinda books she suddenly asked me if I’d read about Chengiz Khan.
I’ve heard his name a few times before, but was not aware of his story.
Then she told me about this book ‘Chengiz Khan’ penned by Thenneti Suri.
All the incidents in this book are adapted from Henry H.Howorth’s Mongol history (from author’s note). It takes you to a different world of the early Mongolian civilization in Gobi. Chengiz khan (originally named as Temujin), who’s born to the cheiftain of an ordinary mongolian nomadic tribe in the Gobi desert emerges as the founder of the great Mongolian empire which turns out to be the largest empire in history. This forms the basic storyline. It’s not an easy task to gather bits and pieces of information from history and entwine them into an enchanting fictious-novel. The author did an excellent job. For the first 10 pages or so the language seems to be a little bit complex, but as you move on it gets easier. This is definitely not a casual or timepass read. If you are interested in historic novels, you’ll surely love this.
